Cycle News Press Release:

The lineup for the Speedway division of the Midwest Speedway Championship and Quad Invitational which will be held at 7:00 pm on August 28th which is the Friday Night before the Indy MotoGP is nearly complete.  International Speedway riders who have confirmed their spots in the lineup are:

#46 Nicolas Covatti from Coronel Pringles, Argentina:  Nicco is looking forward to coming to America and showing that Argentina is serious about speedway.  He will be accompanied by representatives of the governing body of speedway racing in Argentina.

# 9 David Meldrum from Berwick upon Tweed, Scotland:  David spent 12+ years in the Premier League at Berwick, coupled with time at Somerset, Stoke, Edinburgh and Newcastle.  While David has been living in the States for the past 18 months, he misses the competition and looks forward to watching the tapes go up once again.  Follow this link for more information about David:  http://www.berwick-advertiser.co.uk/sport/Testimonial-for-39Home-Town-Boy39.5171493.jp

# 5 Anthony "The British Bulldog" Barlow from Merseyside, England:  Anthony is a five time world ice racing series champion and is the only speedway rider to be crowned as a Red Bull athlete.  Anthony and his wife Marlene also promote the Extreme International Ice Racing Series. (www.Xiir.com)   Anthony spent one year riding on American soil in 2003 and finished second in the Indianapolis National Speedway Shootout Series.  He has spent the last several weeks at a private track in central Illinois preparing for the Midwest Speedway Championship.

# 3 Chris Hesmer from Brantford, Ontario:  Chris made the 600 mile trip from Brantford to Indianapolis three weeks ago to prepare for the Midwest Speedway Championship, only to see the track underwater.  He felt that the Indy track was similar to some of the Canadian tracks that he normally rides, although he felt that the added purse would give him added incentive to ride faster in Indianapolis.

# 2 James "Demolition Mann" Mann from Bolton, England:  "Manny" spent several years on the ice as a rival of Anthony Barlow.  The two are friends off the track, but all bets are off while on the track.  The two have never met head to head on dirt on US soil, but James has more Indiana wins than Barlow.

# 1 Wesley Oskiewicz:  Growing up in his native Poland, Wesley had a choice of playing soccer or riding speedway.  Unfortunately for the speedway riders from the Midwest, Wesley chose to ride speedway.  There was a point during the 2008 Mid-America Speedway season that Wesley had won 32 heat races and eight main events in a row.

US based riders who have submitted their Letters of Intent are:

  #5  Paul Huggins, Fishers, IN
#5x Mikey Buman, Binghamton, NY
#10  Ronny Kemp, Cary, NC
#11  Jim Terchila, Sharon, PA
#14  Preston Dorfmeyer, Mooresville, IN
#33  Brandon Fesselmeyer, Elletsville, IN
#38  Eddie Kelley, Indianapolis, IN
#52  Chad Rall, Engadine, MI, (son of AMA Hall of Fame member Ronnie Rall)
